Yesterday my younger brother was attaching his grip tightly with the wire; I asked him to use grip glue instead. And he didn’t have any idea about motorcycle grip glue. I thought, why shouldn’t I write a blog post explaining what motorcycle grip glue is? 

Motorcycle grip glue is one of the practical and permanent solutions for attaching the grip tightly to the handlebar. Unlike other methods, grip glue facilitates riders with better adhesive properties for the longer term. However, sometimes low-quality grip glue can degrade the experience of a riding journey. 

Let’s look at what it means for you and what you can do about it.

Finding the best adhesive agent to fix the grip on the handlebar can be tested for anyone. 

And here, the motorcycle grip glue comes into play. 

Grip glue is one of the best adhesive agents which binds your grip on the handlebar effectively for a much longer time. Grip glue is like any other glue which binds two surfaces together permanently. 

However, sometimes low-quality grip glue leaves the grip behind or makes your grip sticky, making the riding journey uncomfortable. 

Worry not! In the later section, I’ve mentioned how you can fix your grip on the handlebar without any grip glue.

Why is Choosing Reliable Grip Glue Crucial? 

You might hear professional riders giving advice to not choose grip glue to fix the grip on the handlebar. But have you ever wondered why some riders do not choose grip glue? 

Not choosing reliable grip glue is one of the worst things you’re doing with your motorbike. Cheap quality grip glue leaves its glue behind on the handlebar making your hands sticky while riding. You can avoid this situation by choosing reliable grip glue and making your riding journey much more comfortable. 

And that’s the reason why many riders still preferred choosing the hairspray or wire method. 

Why is it Necessary to Remove Old Grip Glue?  

So far, you understand why it’s necessary to choose reliable grip glue. But have you noticed why the technician first removes the old grip before applying the new one and ever wondered why they do this?

The technician firstly removed all the old coating of grip glue because the old layer sometimes created an uneven layer on the handlebar. This rough layer creates air pores in between, which might cause low stickiness. And that’s why experts always recommend removing the first grip layer first before applying the second one. 

You can remove the uneven first layer with the help of hydrogen peroxide but use this cautiously; it can be toxic. 

What’re Some Other Options to Fix Grip?  

Because of grip glue disadvantages, riders invented many cost-effective methods to fix the grip together. Here’re some other options. 

Hairspray Method: 

The hairspray method is the famous method that many riders, including me, love the most. 

Hairspray contains naturally adhesive properties; you just have to apply the layer of hairspray on the handlebar and apply the grip on it. The best thing about this method is that it dries within 30 minutes and can give you a strong grip the whole day. 

Unfortunately, unlike grip glue and wire, the hairspray method doesn’t provide a long-lasting grip. 

Anyway, you can go with this method, as it is cost-effective and will last for the whole day. 

Wired Method: 

The wired method is also an effective permanent method. In the wired process, you just need to tie a small wire around the handlebar to hold the grip for a longer time. 

However, in the rainy season, the wire may lose its elasticity which causes them to break easily. 

Even in many cases, riders suffer from micro-injuries on their hands because of a sudden break of a wire. 

The Future of Grip Glue? 

Because of some disadvantages, grip glue doesn’t have a bright future ahead. And that’s why many riders are shifting towards fusion grips. 

The manufacturer of fusion grip glue claims that you don’t need any wire, glue to fix the grip on the handlebar. Also, they claimed that you won’t face any slipping issues with the fusion grip. 

How Fusion Grip Works? 

Till now, you understand why some riders are currently shifting to fusion grip. Now let’s see how fusion grip works. 

Fusion grip comes with an adhesive strip which you need to paste on your motorbike handlebar. This strip has a two-face adhesive property which means you can remove the strip’s backing. After removing it, you need to spray the fusion catalytic and fix the grip on it. 

After around 30 minutes, your grip will fix permanently, and you can enjoy your ride.

Which Glue Should You Choose for Motorcycle Grip? 

So far, you understand how fusion grip works and why the future of cheap quality grip seems dark. Now the question is, which glue should you choose for your motorcycle grip. 

There’s no thumb rule to using glue for motorbike handlebars. You can even choose any grip glue for your motorbike handlebar. Some riders also use universal glue as a cost-effective option. And can be used on one or more surfaces. 

In the market, you’re going to find some famous brand grip glue, such as rental brand grip glue; this company claims that their grip glue is one of the best glues for the handlebar. 

Fortunately enough, you shouldn’t trap these types of advertisements. You can even use multipurpose gorilla grip glue. 

This multipurpose glue is the most cost-effective option and can be used on surfaces other than your motorbike, such as glass, fibers, etc. If you’re looking for a cost-effective option, then you can go with multipurpose gorilla glue. 

Other than all the above brands, you can also go with the Three Bonds grip glue, as they are best in manufacturing adhesive tapes, glue, and epoxies. 

It doesn’t matter which brand you choose; your motorbike handlebar will end up sticky whenever you press your handlebar tightly, as it will cause the glue to come out. 

Some riders even use wire to hold the grip when all the glue is starting to come out from the grip. 

And that’s why I always recommend using a fusion-type grip because it doesn’t contain any glue and wire.

Is Motorcycle Grip Glue Enough for Grip? 

Some riders still feel that using grip glue isn’t a practical option to make your grip on the handlebar permanent. 

It’s mainly because after some time, the glue starts losing its properties. Even in the worst situation, it starts coming from the glue, making the rider’s hand sticky. 

And to tackle this situation, the manufacturer of ODI lock jaws grip came out with a clamp solution that you need to install on your motorbike grip. 

These clamps lock the grip tightly for a much longer time and are easy to use. 

Unfortunately, these clamps aren’t a very cost-effective option, and that’s why many riders still avoid this option even though it’s easy to use and comes with a great long-lasting solution.
