What Should a Woman Wear When Riding a Motorcycle?

We women also deserve to ride motorbikes on highways. With this passion, the need for gear comes, and that’s why the question arises, what should a woman wear when riding a motorcycle?

Women riding causally on highways should wear riding jackets to protect from minor injuries, along with motorbike jeans and boots to protect legs and feet. And most crucially, women should also wear helmets to prevent head injuries which could be life-threatening for anyone.

However, a professional women’s racer should wear a back protector and airbags while racing professionally on a racing track. In the following section, I’ll discuss more motorbike gear and their needs separately.

What’re Some Gears to Include in Your List?

Now comes the important part for which you’re here. Here are some of the best motorbike gears you should include in your gear list now.

Motorbike Helmets:

A motorbike helmet is probably the first gear you should include in your gear list.

Why?

It’s because motorbike helmets protect you from head injuries that can be life-threatening, these helmets protect you by creating a 3D layer around your head and absorbing all kinetic energy.

Let’s see some statistics related to motorbike helmets.

In 2016, NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) published a report saying that helmets saved more than 1800 lives, according to the same report, NHTSA claims that around 800 people could save their lives if they had worn a helmet, but sadly they didn’t, you can read the whole report here by clicking here

According to the same report, NHTSA claims that motorbike helmets are 37% effective for riders and 41% for passengers.

I know these stats look small, but remember, something is better than nothing!

In 2017, NHTSA also claimed that if everyone wears a good motorbike helmet while riding, the USA can save more than $1 billion alone, and our federation government can use this $1 billion for better use, you can read this report by clicking here

Another non-government and non-profitable organization combined more than 60 studies. A study concluded that motorbike helmets could reduce deaths caused by severe accidents by around 43%, Helmets can also reduce the risk of severe head injuries by around 69%.

The above studies don’t include helmets and head injuries while concluding, thus more studies are still needed to reach any hard conclusion.

Meanwhile, I don’t think you can risk your life by not wearing a motorbike helmet.

Motorbike Boots:

Wearing a motorbike helmet will save your head, but what about your feet? Aren’t they important to you?

Fortunately, the manufacturer made motorbike boots to protect feet from significant injuries.

In the market, you can find various types of motorbike boots. I highly recommend buying leather-made boots because of their longevity and excellent protection.

You can also go with synthetic leather material boots if you don’t want to buy leather-made boots.

If you’re a short rider, motorbike boots aren’t less than blessings. After all, they will help you reach the ground when parking a motorbike.

Motorbike Back Protectors:

You may hardly know motorbike back protectors if you’re an average city rider.

But believe me; it’s one of the most essential gears a professional rider can include.

The back protector covers your whole back and kidney area and acts as a barrier by absorbing all energy at the time of impact, thus protecting your back and kidney. Additionally, the back protector makes your posture straight and reduces back pain, making it worth it.

Before reaching any hard conclusion, let’s look at some stats for back protectors.

In 2016, biomedical researchers concluded by combining 180 studies stating that ordinary motorbikes and non-foam-filled jackets are the primary cause of back injuries.

In the same study, researchers found that a hard shell back protector is one of the practical tools to protect the back from injuries.

However, these studies still need proper evidence, and more studies are still needed to reach any solid conclusion.

Until then, I think no one will wait for further studies instead of wearing a solid back protector.

Please note that the back protector only works on full gears from the head to the leg. It would be best not to take your safety casually.

Motorbike Jeans:

Motorbike jeans are the most common gear not only among riders but also among non-riders.

Although motorbike jeans don’t add much protection, wearing them while riding for comfort is always recommended.

Fortunately, some manufacturers are adding padding to motorbike jeans to provide better protection, you can go with these types of motorbike jeans if you want some extra protection while riding.
